Snapchat for marketers: 7 golden rules! - ITechnical World

Whatever your field of activity is; If your target audience includes teenagers and children, you do not have the luxury of skipping Snapchat in 2016. Snapchat takes the subject of "individual communication", which is an indispensable topic of all marketing seminars, to a unique level, and therefore requires special care when designing its social media strategy.

Even the language you use there won't work on Snapchat, let alone the content on Facebook or Twitter. 9 thousand "snaps" circulating between brands and customers every second say this.

The seven-item list prepared by Sujan Patel at Entrepreneur also symbolizes Snapchat's unwritten rules for organizations:

Be careful what you snap

When you delete a wrong post you made on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram within seconds, you will rarely encounter an obsessive follower who can threaten you with his screenshot. This is normal on Snapchat!

Users know that every published share, or "snap" in their jargon, will disappear in just a few seconds, so they enter the application carefully and save the snaps. Especially in times of instantaneous developments, where marketer motivations are “share this!” Be very careful about what you share when your heart screams. A snap you take in the heat of the moment may cause you a headache after a few days and the relevant trend ends.

Don't snap everything

It is the glory of youth to follow hundreds of people at the same time on other networks. As we mentioned before, Snapchat is preferred for a more individual experience. For this reason, if you post three or four times in an hour, after a while no one but you will be visible on the "Story" page.

Maybe this will make you successful on Twitter and Facebook, but things don't work that way on Snapchat. Therefore, upload only your best content to the Story section, not all snaps.

If it really matters, skip Snapchat

Remember, Snapchat is all about fun and one-on-one communication. Therefore, when you are going to share a press release, a new product announcement or a similar important update, choose more traditional channels.

In such cases, your main priority will be to reach as large an audience as possible and give them a permanent message. However, the lifespan of shared snaps is not even half an hour (except for those who take screenshots – remember the first point). So don't use Snapchat to share important information and official announcements.

Do not redirect content from other social networks

The career tips you would give to new college graduates will not be the same as the tips you would give to a young person who is just starting high school. Likewise, do not share the same content you share on other social networks on Snapchat, which is dominated by young people under the age of 18. Your main purpose for using this platform should be to describe a different aspect of your brand or business on a more personal level. Many brands that have conquered Snapchat turn the social network into an advantage in this way, with the originality and individuality it provides.

Adjust sharing times well

Although it may vary depending on the content you offer and your target audience, the 10-second viewing time that Snapchat offers by default generally does not meet the need; either more or less. Although ten seconds may seem short, it can be quite difficult when looking at a single image.

Therefore, do not stick to the default setting and determine the lifespan of a photo according to your needs in Snapchat settings. Remember; You are dealing with young people and children: The quicker a content disappears, the more valuable it becomes.

Take a look around

In fact, this recommendation also applies to Facebook, Twitter or countless other channels through which companies reach customers. However, it is worth remembering that Snapchat also has; If you want to draw a good marketing strategy, be sure to take a look at the work done by brands similar to yours. Examine how followers react to which types of campaigns. Pay attention to what they are talking about. Also, don't be a stranger to the rising trends in the Snapchat world.

Try to stay silent

Turning off the sound completely in the videos you add sometimes blocks background noise and sometimes allows a "silent cinema" edit with a nostalgia effect. To create one of the most creative promotional campaigns for your brand, do not forget to add silent videos to the list.
